March is Healthy Heart Month

Healthy Heart Month

March is the time for us to learn what keeps our hearts healthy. We will talk about ways we can be healthy and happy. Exercise, eating right and getting enough sleep are some of the healthy heart lessons to be taught. Young children are known to be picky eaters. Allowing them to explore and taste new foods may help them to become better eaters. It can take 8 to 12 tries for a child to accept a new food. It is important to set good eating habits in the preschool years that can be carried into adulthood. Don’t forget about exercise. A preschool child should be getting 60 minutes of daily physical activity. It’s as easy as taking a 15 minute walk, marching around the house in a pots and pan parade or playing tag in the backyard. Thank you for sending in healthy snacks, we really enjoy them! For more information, check out this website: http://kidshealth.org/parent/nutrition_fit/index.html

Frog Room News:

Bears, bears, everywhere! Goldilocks and the Three Bears will be visiting the Frog Room to tell their story. What an adventure they will share! Going on a Bear Hunt will be fun for the Frogs. Wear your Pajamas and bring your favorite teddy bear school on Pajama Day!

As an introduction to counting, “Chicka, Chicka, 1,2,3” will be read and we will try to count in different languages. Ask your Frog to count for you in Spanish or in Sign Language.

Cars, trains, boats and planes will be talked about during our Transportation weeks. We will try to match license plates, paint with tires and build and paint our own airplanes. “The Wheels on the Bus” is a favorite transportation song to be sung in the Frog Room.

Spinner egg decorating is favorite in the Frog Room as well as Jelly Bean graphing and egg matching.

Safari Room News:

In celebration of Dr. Seuss’s birthday, rhyming will become the focus in the Safari Room. We will make and eat “Green Eggs and Ham” and “Hop on Pop”. Our foot is a foot and we will be measuring around the room.

Healthy Heart month gives us the opportunity to talk about good eating habits and why being active is good for our bodies. We will listen to our hearts and hear them beating inside our bodies. We will do some exercises to make our hearts beat faster and listen to them again.

A Grocery Store will be set up in the Safari Room and good food choice will be discussed. The Food Pyramid will show us what we should be choosing to eat.

Transportation will take over in the Safari Room. Cars, trains and boats are just a few ways we will get around. We will make our own vehicles and name them. We will do a helicopter drop off the balcony to see how they fly.

An egg hunt, cotton ball bunnies and jelly bean counting and a sorting will take us to Spring Break!

Farm Room News:

Transportation time in the Farm Room is a fun time to learn about ways to travel. There are many different kinds of transportation to be explored. Cars, trains, boats and planes are just a few ways we will get around. We will make our own vehicles and name them. We will do a helicopter drop off the balcony to see how they fly. Signs are an important part of the transportation and we will become familiar with many different signs and what they mean.

Leprechauns might pay a visit to the Farm Room. We will make some traps to see if we can catch those pesky leprechauns. Green foods will be tasted and a color collage made in the art room.

Natural egg dying, egg shell art and the bunny hop will take us to Spring Break.

Bug News:

In celebration of Dr. Seuss’s birthday, rhyming will become the focus in the Bug Room. Along with Dr. Seuss stories, Nursery Rhymes will be told. Jack and Jill and Little Miss Muffett will make an appearance in the Bug Room. We will make and eat “Green Eggs and Ham” and do band-aid art.

Kingas and kites will reinforce the letter K and it’s sound. Color blending and prisms will help us to see the colors of the rainbow. Making leprechaun traps might help us to catch pesky Leprechaun that might visit us on St. Patrick’s Day. A green shake will make a delicious St. Paddy’s Day snack.

Letters will fill the Bug Room. We will march around the Alphabet and review the letters and sounds we have done in the past weeks. In the Task Room we will make letter books.

The bunny hop, an egg hunt, counting eggs and dying eggs will be done at the end of the month. We will count a dozen!
